RECONCILIATION TOUR

$100.00

A guide will lead you on a reflective journey through the Taranaki Cathedral precinct. The Reconciliation Tour explores how the history of St Mary’s, New Zealand’s oldest stone church, is interwoven with the Taranaki Land Wars. The tour continues through the old churchyard, then circles the Cathedral to visit the Waikato Warriors memorial before carrying on to Hatherly Hall for a peep into the Cathedral, which is currently closed for earthquake strengthening.

The heart of the tour takes place in Te Whare Hononga, where you’ll view the large-scale Treaty of Waitangi exhibition and our animated history video, which acknowledges the pain of the past and shares how we are working towards peace and reconciliation today.  Your guide will tell some of the stories behind the design elements and answer questions.

We suggest giving yourself an additional 30 minutes after the tour to spend more time with the exhibitions, which include the Lament & Hope mini documentary series & interactive touchscreens in Te Whare Hononga that share local stories and worldview. You are also welcome to wander the grounds and scan our QR codes for a deeper dive into our history or take the short walk to the Pūkākā summit, where panoramic views provide deeper context to our shared story.

Allow 90-120 minutes
$100 per person.
(enquire for group rates)
Subject to the availability of a tour guide. Advance booking required.
